Muruhura Herbert
Mr. Muruhura Herbert is an experienced educationist, tourism professional, and institutional leader with a strong background in Tourism, natural resources management, public administration, and academic leadership. With over 15 years of progressive experience in higher education, project management, and school leadership, he has developed extensive expertise in student affairs, institutional administration, training, and community development initiatives.
He holds a Master of Science in Natural Resources Management, a Master of Public Administration and Management, a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration and Management, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts (Tourism and Geography).
He has attained other short courses in resource mobilization, records management, performance management, Trainer of trainees and customer service for Tourism practitioners. His diverse academic background reflects a strong blend of environmental studies, governance, management, and education which pillars have shaped his professional journey.
Currently, since 2024, he serves as the Dean of Students at Uganda Wildlife Research and Training College (UWRTC), where he oversees student affairs, welfare, mentorship, discipline, and the implementation of student development programs. Before this role, he served as Principal Instructor and Head of the Tourism Department at UWRTC from 2018 to 2024, providing academic leadership, curriculum development, staff coordination, and practical field training for tourism students. He also worked as a Senior Instructor from 2009 to 2018, where he taught and mentored students across various wildlife and tourism management disciplines.
Beyond academic work, he has significant experience in project management and school leadership. From 2009 to 2011, he worked as a Project Officer at Pamoja Africa, contributing to community-based projects and youth empowerment programs. He also served as associate School Director at PEAS Bridge High School and later as an associate Senior School Support Officer at PEAS Uganda, where he provided technical support to schools, strengthened instructional leadership, and enhanced school performance across the network.
With a strong commitment to quality education, sustainable tourism, natural resources management, and student development, he continues to contribute meaningfully to academic excellence, institutional growth, problem solving and community empowerment.
He accomplished several assignments in skilling of tour guides in Uganda under Uganda Safari guides association, curriculum development and implementation for formal courses and short tailored courses and community engagement that has increased College enrollment. He is a dedicated leader known for integrity, teamwork, strategic thinking, innovative and a passion for shaping the next generation of conservation and tourism professionals.
