Emmanuel Okech is an accomplished Tourism and Conservation specialist with over 20 years of professional experience in tourism training, capacity development, eco-tourism product innovation, cultural heritage management, and community-based tourism (CBT) initiatives. He holds a MSc in Wildlife Tourism and Recreation Management, a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism from Makerere University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration, Diploma in Secondary Education, and postgraduate certifications in Project Planning and Management and a certificate in Forest Management. These competencies have strengthened his technical proficiency in eco-tourism product design, environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) and multi stakeholder engagement.

For the past 17 years, Mr. Okech has served as a Principal Instructor at the Uganda Wildlife Research and Training College (UWRTC), where he currently leads the Tourism Department and coordinates wildlife filming programs. His contributions include developing competency-based training (CBT) models, supporting curriculum reform through modular curriculum design and assessment framework development, supervised more than 100 student research projects across various tourism and conservation disciplines. His work has significantly contributed to elevating tourism service quality, strengthening institutional training capacity, and improving community livelihood outcomes within Uganda’s tourism landscape.

Mr. Okech has published research on Canopy ecotourism feasibility in Kibale National Park and Land-based recreation facility development in Uganda, while also contributing to several interdisciplinary studies in tourism, wildlife conservation, and natural resource management. In addition, he has facilitated community tourism enterprise (CTE) development programs for women and youth in Kasese and Rubirizi districts, building local capacity in eco-tourism product development, value addition, and sustainable resource-use planning. As dedicated educator and conservation advocate, Mr. Okech has been instrumental in positioning UWRTC for multiple awards and national recognition in tourism and wildlife-related competitions. He remains committed to advancing human capital development in tourism, promoting conservation friendly tourism models, and fostering sustainable socio-economic benefits for both communities and biodiversity.
