About Us

Uganda Wildlife Research and Training College

Background

Uganda Wildlife Research and Training College (UWRTC) traces its origin to 1991. In 1996, the government of Uganda (GoU) formally established it as an autonomous institute by act of parliament to serve the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) as the main target of its products. The Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Act, 2025, restructured the Institute into a College. Wildlife research provides critical evidence for informed policymaking, ecosystem management, and biodiversity conservation. Paired with training, it bridges the gap between scientific knowledge and real-world application, building a skilled workforce to translate research into tangible conservation outcomes. the college’s operations are therefore aligned to bridge this gap and geared towards achieving its mandate under the new TVET Act, 2025, which formally reconstituted UWRTI into UWRTC.

The Uganda Wildlife Research and Training College (UWRTC) operates within a well-defined legal and policy environment that affirms its role in conservation education, applied research, and national capacity building. Its foundation is rooted in constitutional principles that promote environmental protection, education, decentralization, and science-led development
